Professionally, I am a CPA in public practice and a co-owner in the firm of Marple & Maple. Our firm is located in Kennewick, Washington and was founded by my father. Kennewick is located in eastern Washington State near the Columbia, Yakima, and Snake Rivers. My areas of practice include tax return preparation and tax planning for individuals, businesses, trusts, and estates. I also provide business improvement services, limited personal financial planning, technology consulting, and ethical will services. I am a creative individual who will take the time to provide quality services in a friendly manner, attempting to add value for my clients and their families.
Kennewick is my birth city and I have spent most of my life in this town. (Our area is also known as the Tri-Cities, consisting of Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland along with West Richland). I have always had many interests and passions.
Growing up in the Tri-Cities included golf (I started playing when I was 8 or 9), photography (including aerial photography), music, a little mischief and a few pranks, woodworking, stargazing, and an early interest in technology and electronics. We were also spoiled with fresh fruits and vegetables from our local farmers. My early interest in technology led to me obtaining my FCC 3rd class radiotelephone license before I was 16. I worked for a brief period of time as a DJ at the country radio station KOTY on weekends while in high school. I did live away from the Tri-Cities for a few years in Tucson, graduating from the University of Arizona (go Wildcats!) in 1980. Other than working for the University of Arizona Hospital in the accounting department, my entire accounting career has been with Marple & Marple.
Personal Interests & Hobbies
I am an avid reader on many topics and subscribe to a number of magazines and newsletters. (My father has told me you need to exercise your brain cells and I do.) Most of the magazines I take have been transitioned to Zinio (a great product) and I also regularly read technology and business news on Flipboard. Personal interests include my family, technology, music (many types with jazz, classic rock, country and pop being favorites), photography, travel, self-improvement, astronomy, and science.
I am also fond of cigars and red wine (there is no better value than Washington State wines!) and cooking with a smoker.
Honors & Memberships
My honors and memberships include Past President of the Kennewick Kiwanis Club, Founding Member of the Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation, Past President of the Planned Giving Council of Eastern Washington, Past President of the Benton Franklin Humane Society, and involvement with numerous other charities. Memberships include: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Washington State Society of Certified Public Accountants, AICPA PFP Section, AICPA Tax Section, and the Kennewick Kiwanis.
Family & Other
My family consists of my wife (and best friend) of nearly 25 years, Sue Anne, Stepson Brandon and his wife Amy, grandson Isaiah, stepson Justin and wife Kelly, and daughter Katie Anne. We also have two cats, Sticket and Marie. Brandon and Amy are graduates of Central Washington State University and live near Dallas. Brandon served 5 years in the Navy and now works for L3 Communications. Brandon is also a private pilot and fortunate to have such a nice wife. Justin and Kelly live in Pasco and keep busy with their jobs. Justin works for Loews and Kelly works for a freight company. Justin is a hunter and fisherman and is also fortunate to have such a nice wife! Katie Anne graduated high school in 2014 and is attending Washington State University. She is continuing towards her plan of being a teacher and is interested in teaching kindergarten.
